Music Therapy
Many people feel music is a language, a way of expressing ourselves without words. This idea is central to music therapy, where music is used as a means to explore what is going on in our lives and how we feel about it.
In music therapy lots of instruments are available, such as electric piano, guitars and drums. We do not set out to learn how to play these instruments but to explore how we can use them to express ourselves. As a result people who have no musical knowledge or experience can also attend.
Each music therapy session is unique. In the past some students played drums when they were feeling frustrated or angry, others wrote songs about what was going on in their lives, about happy things, sad things, hopes and dreams. More students felt they needed a time-out, so played quiet instruments, listened to CDs or talked about what was going on for them.
Each music therapy session is confidential, so the music therapist does not talk about what happens during the session outside the session.
Music therapy sessions are available to students at St. Enda’s on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
