The library at St. Enda's is funded by the Junior Certificate School
Programme (JCSP) Demonstration Library Project. There are 30 JCSP
libraries in schools in Ireland and the one in St Enda's is the only one of
its kind in Limerick. It is staffed by a professional librarian, Ms.
Bingham-Shee who works in close partnership with the teachers. The main
purpose of the library is to support reading for pleasure and lifelong
learning and to increase literacy levels through reading activities. The
library is open at lunchtime and after school for homework club.
Teachers bring their classes to the library during class time for libr ary activities. The library contains lots of lovely new books, desks for study, research and homework, comfortable sofas and chairs for reading books for pleasure, beanbags, computers ,issue desk where pupils can borrow books to take home. Library activities include
borrowing and reading books, guests such as storytellers, writers and
comedians, research, project work and homework, JCSP literacy initiatives, quiet reading, group reading using class sets of books, drama workshops, listening to stories and using computers.
The library facilities include:
A large spacious area in the centre of the school
A wide range of interseting new books, newspapers and magazines selected by students and teachers.
Educational software and dvds
Exhibition area
Modern desks and chairs for study, research and homework.
Leather sofas, bean bags and comfortable chairs for recreational reading.
Computers, cameras, dv cameras, data projectors.
Issue desk where pupils can borrow books to take home.
Library activities will be coordinated by teachers and librarian, Ms. Bingham Shee. Library activities will include:
Borrowing and reading books.
Guest Speakers such as storytellers, writers and comedians.
Research and homework.
Supported project work.
JCSP initiatives.
Quiet reading.
Group reading using class sets of books.
Drama workshops.
Listening to stories.
Using computers.
What your library can do for you!
You can be an independent learner! That means you can find out things on your own without parents or teachers.
The librarian can get you books on anything you are interested in like skateboarding, horses or fashion!
You can read brilliant books that can make you laugh or make you cry.
You can use a library for lots of different activities.
You can develop your skills and then choose what YOU want to do when you leave school.
You can learn how to be a chef, how to pass your driving test or even how to play the guitar.
