Draft Policy for Sanctions
These are the procedures which should be followed when poor behaviour becomes an issue for a member of staff
GENERAL PRINCIPLES APPLYING TO SANCTIONS
All students and teachers have the right to be treated fairly and with dignity, in a safe, caring and disciplined environment. To achieve this, the school needs to maintain high standards of behaviour throughout the school.
Positive Behaviour
Positive Behaviour will be promoted throughout the school and students will be rewarded.
(a)Verbal praise in class
(b) Written note in journal plus merit stickers, graduation ceremonies and postcards home
(d) Assembly announcements
(e) Christmas and Summer Reports
(f) Notice boards and flat screen displays
(g) Intercom
(h) Newsletter
(I) Communication from teachers, Year head, Deputy Principal and Principal with students and their parents.
Every effort is made in the school to explain the purpose of the rules to the students. When rules are broken, or for consistent breaches of our Code of Behaviour, one or more of the following actions may be taken depending on the severity of the breach of discipline.
(a) The teacher reasons with the student and discusses the impact of their behaviour on others and what needs to change in terms of behaviour.
(b) The teacher gives verbal warning (including advice on how to improve).
(c) The teacher writes a comment in the student's School Journal for parents'/guardians' attention. (An incident report must be completed for the Year Head).
(d)The teacher may request to speak with the parents/guardians on the phone or in person.
(e) Extra homework may be given by the teacher.
(f) Homework report.
(g) Behaviour Report.
(h) Withdrawal of privileges. Exclusion from favoured activities, school trips etc.
(i) A written or verbal apology to staff member or students.
(j) Referral to the Year head in accordance with our ladder of referral.
(k) Detention in school after a minimum of 24 hours notice.
(l) A telephone call or letter to the parents/guardians from the Year head.
(m) Year head meets with the parents/guardians to discuss how behaviour can improve
(n) Confiscation of the mobile phone in line with the school's policy.
(o) Payment of the cost of repair/replacement caused by damage to school/student property.
(p) Suspension from school (in accordance with the school's policy on suspension
and permanent exclusion).
(q) Exclusion from school (in accordance with the school's policy on suspension and permanent exclusion.
